Social Skills Group is a therapeutic program to support girls as they deal with life issues. Enrichment Workshops provide young ladies with the opportunity to build skills that will make them more confident.
Our Social Skills Group promotes self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision making, which are the core competencies of Social and Emotional Learning.
Our workshops help scholars find their purpose, embrace who they are, and equip them with essential skills they can use to create healthy relationships, improve their academic performance, and build a bright future for themselves.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a psychological method of recognizing, interrupting, and changing negative thought patterns into positive ones, which we use in our Social Skills Group. While we have topics to address, we pay attention to the subjects that engage the group and stay on specific topics for as long as they are interested in working through them. This flexible technique means that meeting times, dates, and frequency are flexible and up to the discretion of the school. However, the minimum numbers of meetings required is six. This ensures the girls will experience the full benefits of the group.
Enrichment Workshops are offered monthly (with additional optional Saturday Enrichment Workshops) and each workshop focuses on a specific topic within one of our core objectives: self-confidence, business and leadership, academic success, public presentation and etiquette, diversity and community, or financial management.
Through engagement with the community and our families, service learning, and podcasting, our scholars learn to be responsible citizens who are not afraid to use their voice to inspire change.
Being involved in the community gives our scholars a chance to give back and understand the impact they can have.
Parent involvement leads to positive benefits for students, parents, and youth programming, including improved academic performance and improved parent-staff relationships.
The podcast gives our youth a voice which is important, as it supports young people to have a positive impact and affect change in their communities.
Community Engagement opportunities occur once a month with our community partner (like Greenleaf Trust in Winter/Spring 2024), while Service Learning opportunities happen periodically (like volunteering with First Day Shoe Fund or running a Prom Dress Drive). We normally have two family engagement opportunities a season, like Family Game Night. Scholars can record podcasts with our equipment in collaboration with KYD Network.
Our Leader in Training (LIT) program provides a space for girls involved in our other programs to begin developing leadership skills. We collect academic accountability sheets and link scholars up with mentors through Lil Sisters in Business.
Our LIT team provides a place for innovative thinkers, team players, strong communicators, and optimists to build on their skills. We create opportunities for our leaders to give and receive feedback, reflect, and build the capacity for making changes and adjustments.
Our mentors represent a diverse group of business women in various sectors throughout the community. These women are dedicated to giving back and pouring into young ladies as it relates to business and life.
Special events provide opportunities for our participants and other youth in the community to celebrate and love themselves, have fun, and continue learning and growing.
Our annual events include the yearly HBCU Tour, the Mommy & Me Brunch, and more.
